Patch panels and MOLLE placement: getting the layout right
The small velcro patch area at the top of this pack is easy to overlook, but it’s one of the more useful details — a dedicated spot for an ID, unit or novelty patch that doesn’t compete with the MOLLE webbing used for actual gear. When laying out pouches on the main MOLLE grid, the general rule is fastest-access items go highest and closest to your dominant hand — a torch or multi-tool pouch near the top strap, bulkier items like a sleeping mat lower down where weight sits closer to your back. The two-compartment interior already does some of that organisation for you: the laptop-sleeve compartment is the better spot for anything you want protected and flat, while the zip-pocket compartment suits loose gear that needs to stay contained. With a 50kg-rated stitch reinforcement at the stress points, it’s built to carry a genuinely full 30-litre load rather than just look the part empty.
